The neighborhoods and businesses around our HOMES is what brings depth to our neighborhoods and communities. Vromans is a long-standing icon and local bookstore that has served Pasadena since 1894! It is the oldest and largest independent bookstore in Southern California. Vromans offers many programs to support its customers and the community.. One such offering is a significant discount on a purchase of 10 books or more of the same book. Recently, a lady called in to order 50 copies of a hardback book for her book club. The Vromans’ employee asked if she would hold a minute while she checked in with her manager. The employee was checking about the discount she could offer. The manager approved a significant discount for such an order, but when the employee returned to the phone line and extended the offer, the customer refused. She said how much she appreciated the willingness of the store to offer the discount, but that in light of the hard hit that COVID-19 has delivered to businesses, she preferred to pay full price for all 50 books to support the store. We were so uplifted by the thoughtfulness of this customer, and inspired to look for our own opportunities, no matter how small, to care and support those around us.
