This is the 3rd feature in our series. We’ve all experienced it at one time or another – that hotel room you’d love to take home. Well, thinking like the pros responsible for some of the most inviting and fabulous hotels in the world, you can bring that ‘atmosphere’ they create into your own home. We found a fabulous article by John Wogan from the magazine, Real Simple, who put his expertise to work and highlighted the pros tips.
Our 3rd feature is the Soho House in Chicago, although there are 23 international locations! Their designers’ whole focus was to create a home away from home. Check out the link here for a visual snapshot of this lovely décor, and see their decorators tip section below.
Decorating Tips:
- Lighting is a key element in creating a beautiful atmosphere whether that’s in a hotel room or in the rooms of your HOME. Candace Campos, the U.S. Design Director for Soho House, says, “The key to ambience is offering lighting on multiple levels.” Multiple levels can be achieved by combining floor lamps, ceiling light, table lamps, and scones.
- A cozy, lived-in feel is accomplished by vintage rugs and they can serve to anchor other elements in the room together.
- Mixing patterns creates depth. The key to creating a unified look is to identify one theme that the patterns revolve around such as a color. When a room has depth it creates a draw into its center.
